Mountain Mix: Mary Gauthier, Eliza Gilkyson, Gretchen Peters

Songwriting Women, Traditions, Old Time

The combination of Mary Gauthier, Eliza Gilkyson and Gretchen Peters is a powerful journey into the world of accomplished, award-winning women who write and sing folk music. Pulling no punches and writing from their own worlds and experiences, this is complex and dramatic music, personal experiences reinvented for all of us to relate. Three women, three guitars, three sets of experience, wisdom and amazing abilities.

Voted 2005’s New Artist of the Year by The Americana Music Association, Mary Gauthier’s not exactly new to the genre, praised by folk icons Bob Dylan and Tom Waits; Jimmy Buffett, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, and more have recorded her songs. Used in film and TV, most recently, her work appeared in ABCs “ Nashville,” HBO’s Banshee, and Masterpiece Theater. With six solo recordings, just appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and well, she can really write and is both down to earth and darn good.

Eliza Gilkyson is a two-time Grammy nominee, songwriter and activist; her songs have been recorded by Joan Baez, Tom Rush and Rosanne Cash and appear in movies, on PBS specials and prime-time TV. She’s a member of the Austin Music Hall of Fame, winning both Folk Alliance and Austin Music awards.

Born in New York and raised in Colorado, Gretchen Peters is a 25-year Nashville resident, a two times Grammy nominee and CMA Song of the Year winner. With nine solo albums, she’s loved by both country and roots artists. This is sure to be a spellbinder.
